AMONG THE GIANTS

The title for this piece is 'Among the Giants,' which was the main concept. However, the subject seemed either too distant or too imposing. Something felt off.

It just didn’t feel like he was Among the Giants.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized it wasn't quite what I had in mind when the idea first popped up. It was almost there, but it needed that extra something. The giants had to really capture what being a giant is all about.

It was more of …'Away from the Giants.' Get it?

Here’s how I started out. I knew that I wanted the green and the sort of lime green yellow color to be prominent.

I tried changing the colors. Maybe that would help? I thought. And it kinda did. But, as I said, it didn’t really feel like he was Among The Giants.

So I went back to the drawing board and finally came up with this!

It was time to start over again.

Whited out and ready to go!

Equal parts excited and anxious but music on always!

Decided to do a nice coat of this yellow to sort of stain the white. I probably would have stopped here too, the way I love these colors!

I started by sketching some basic shapes on the canvas and blocked out some black and blue to get a rough idea of the final look.

Played around with texture using this serrated palette knife for the grassy field they’d be standing on.

Wrapped it up with some pink and a few tweaks here and there. And voila!

I thought of adding a fun little surprise in the painting too!

A starry night for this lone warrior and the gentle giants he meets on his way.

This painting was a revelation, reminding me that hitting the reset button is completely okay.

You know, sometimes life just needs a little pause so we can step back and soak in everything from a fresh angle.

Plus, it’s pretty cool how taking that time can actually help us sharpen our skills and make us even better at what we love.
